Question about funding of artificial eyes in the USA

Hello I will try to make this short. In 1997, our daughter was diagnosed with Retinoblastoma. (I had it in 1969 also) We fly out this Wed. to Boston to have her prosthetic eye made. We’ve managed to pay for our hotel and airfare. Even though there are ocularists in Georgia, they do not make custom eyes so I go to the best in our country. We had the money to pay for her eye, but had to pay that to the mortgage company. I’ve been out of work over a year now. We have about 1/2 the money we need to pay for her eye and will need food money also. Does anyone know of an organization that could help us financially with the remaining amount? By the time we get home, we’ll have to start calling the mortgage company again. Please pray for us.

Yawkey Family Inn offers home to out-of-town patient families who need help with long-term accommodations. Their is a lot ofhelp in Boston. Try the Ronald Mcdonald foudation/charity. If you are are going to the Childrens Hospital call ahead and they will help you, even if your not going call them they alsways have resources or at least can give you numbers. MA is a small state and their is a lot of help here. I wish you luck in your journey.

I hope your experience went well in Boston, and that your daughter is comfortable with her prosthesis.
I can only assume that your earlier information was regarding the COUNTRY of Georgia [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Georgia_%28country%29 ], as there are, indeed, custom eyes being made in the state of Georgia, USA.

my son is dealing with the same problem there insurances canceled on them so they need help for a prosthetic eye also. I have looked everywhere and am unable to find any help. They are good kids with two small boys they pay their bills and don’t know what they will do because they have used all their savings for hospital bills. So I am also interested if anyone knows of any organizations that help with kids getting eyes

Did you find assistance for prosthetic eye? I am researching this to see if I can help start an organization for people who need assistance no matter the cause. I lost my eye in 2014 and know how hard it is to make the purchase.

My son was accidently shot in the head at 12 years old and turned 13 when released from the hospital he lost all vision I was able to cash out all my retirement from my job and took him to eye therapy for a year that was not cover by insurance, he is 17 now and have vision in one eye however its like Swiss cheese how he states. He is amazing boy and has gone through so much he wants to be independent and wants to drive. Today we had a field test done and they stayed he will need telescope glasses to drive. Does anyone have any information on this, I have used up every savings I have, I’m raising my sister children and get no Assistance so my son doesn’t qualify for state insurance because they see my income as only for 2 since I don’t have custody of the other kids. I could really use any information anyone may have. My family is very blessed and I just want my son to be able to do everything he has dreamed of. Thank you

I’m an adult female with a disfigured blind eye, can’t afford the eye shell. Mostly I deal with it, but also have times when I cry about my appearance. You want to look normal, and as a female, you want to feel pretty again.

Bless your heart JC…my situation is the same as yours and the psychological damage for me has been worse than the physical challenges. I get SSI & Medicaid but the cost of prosthetic eye or shield isn’t covered ( which I think is terrible) Most ppl on Medicaid don’t have $2500-$8000 just laying around to cover cost. Do u know of any programs to assist? Thx❤️
