Artificial Eye Clinic, Moorfields Eye Hospital Dubai

This is my seventh visit to Moorfields Eye Hospital Dubai to make artificial eyes. Moorfields has an incredibly supportive environment which makes my job uncomplicated and a pleasure. Clients are welcomed to the hospital by friendly and efficient front desk staff who take them through to a comfortable waiting room where they are offered refreshments and up to date magazines.

My clients here come from a diverse range of backgrounds. In this last trip alone I have seen clients from Oman, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Nigeria, Sri Lanka, India, Pakistan, Egypt, Qatar and the various states of the United Arab Emirates. I regularly use the translation service which is offered to remove the barrier of language.

Moorfields Eye Hospital Dubai is situated within Dubai Healthcare City.
Dubai Healthcare City was set up as a centre of excellence in healthcare for the UAE. It has invited leading hospitals from around the world to establish branches to encourage international specialists to consult here. Moorfields Eye Hospital Dubai is the first overseas branch of Moorfields Eye Hospital London.

It is great to be part of a team of specialists who are making such a big difference to the health and well being of the people in the Middle East. For more details about the artificial eye clinic in Dubai please click here.

What can be done for eye dryness. I am 65 and have had a new eye made 2
years ago. Ive used otc drops with no help. Is surgery an option?

Hi Linda, There are several reasons that a prosthesis can become dry. Has the new prosthesis become dry recently or was it like that from the start? If it is a recent thing then it is possibly protein build up on the prosthesis and can be removed with a professional polish from your ocularist. If it has been like that from the start then it may be that the prosthesis is a little too big. An adjustment can be made by the ocularist to make it a little smaller.

It could be that the cornea is a little peaky so that the lids do not blink over easily, which can also be fixed by your ocularist. Windy or dusty environments, hair sprays or other aerosols can add to the problem. When all other options have been ruled out we recommend Ocuglide eye drops which are silicon based. One drop will coat the prosthesis for the entire day, then another drop can be added before bed – if needed.

One of my friends lost his during playing game. A pencil got hit in his eye.the liquid started coming out of the eye. His didn’t knew that eye is getting weaker, also they didn’t find a specialist doctor at that time.

He is using the artificial move-able eyeball but there are some problems. His eyeball gets loose sometime and then gets free.
Can you suggest me some solution so i can help him.

    Regards,
    Muhammad Usman

      Hi Muhammad,

It sounds as if the artificial eye needs resizing. If the prosthesis is too big, too small or just not the right shape for the eye socket it will tend to rotate, be uncomfortable or fall out. Can your friend easily get to an Ocularist (eye maker)? Which country does he live in? If you follow this link you may be able to find someone close to him: https://artificialeyes.net/ocularists/

      Kind regards,

      Jenny Geelen.

    Hi,

A friend of mine has got diagnosed with endophthalmitis fungal infection in the left eye with a fungus named as aspergillus.
more than 40 days of eye injections and oral medications the fungus is not shrinking.
The doctor has suggested to remove the eye at the earliest.
Is there any other opinion that you share?
